Atlantic Highlands and Highlands Elementary School students, staff and families participated in National Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4th

National Walk to School Day, which is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday in October has the goal of raising awareness and support for the health, community and environmental benefits of walking or biking to school.  It is a day to enjoy the weather and encourage students to get some exercise before they begin their busy day at school.

HES students, staff and families met at Huddy Park in the morning and started the day with a celebration of the school’s Safe Routes to School Gold Award.  They then walked up the hill to school as a group.  At AHES, the meeting spot was set as the Atlantic Highlands harbor, where students, teachers and parents formed a “walking train” to the school with different stops at corners along the way.

All and all National Walk to School Day was a fun event for both elementary schools that has encouraged more of our families to walk or bike to school on a daily basis.
