Congratulations to Atlantic Highlands Elementary School’s 2016-2017 Student Council members!  AHES Student Council has 20 members from 4th -6th grade and is advised by Mrs. Betsey Kurdes. Members read the morning announcements proudly every day at school, and collect lunch count from all classrooms.

One big initiative going on this year is "Be a link in the chain of kindness".  Students are able to earn kindness strips and the student council adds links to the chain weekly, as well as reading the students' names at the end of each week.  The goal is to have the chain spread down each hallway and up the steps of the whole building.

In October, Student Council held a sock drive called "SOCKTOBER". The goal was to collect 250 pairs of socks for the needy and the school collected 1,009 pairs!

Operation Smile came AHES to present the Student Council with a plaque of gratitude for last year’s fundraiser - the Penny War, which raised almost $1,000, enough to save about 5 smiles of children born with cleft lips and cleft palates around the world.  There are plans to hold the fundraiser again in the spring.

Also coming up is a winter food drive for the local food bank.
